Rain vs. all-weather golf gloves
Two gloves that sound like the same thing and are not. Here is how they differ, and which one should carry your logo.
The short answer
Order all-weather synthetic golf gloves when you want one glove per player that gets used round after round: they wear longer than leather and stay consistent across a big order. Order rain golf gloves when the gloves have to perform in a downpour. They grip harder the wetter they get, and they only work as a pair. Plenty of clubs order both under one logo, and both start from a minimum of 12 at Customized Golf Gloves.
Side by side
| Rain gloves | All-weather gloves | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is for | Playing through actual rain | Everyday rounds, practice and range use |
| Grip when wet | Gets grippier as it soaks | Holds up to sweat and damp; slips in a downpour |
| Worn as | A pair, one on each hand | A single, on the lead hand |
| Build | Synthetic wet-grip fabric, snug knit fit | Synthetic or hybrid with a leather palm |
| Feel | Built for hold, not touch | Firmer than cabretta, consistent glove to glove |
| Wear | Saved for wet days, so a pair lasts | Outlasts cabretta; machine washable, air dry |
| Logo | Your mark on both closure tabs | Your mark on the closure tab |
| How you order | Count pairs: two gloves per player | Count singles, split by hand and cut |
| Best for | Wet-climate clubs, autumn societies, captains’ gifts | Corporate days, ranges, academies, big fields |
Why the names cause wrong orders
“All-weather” describes durability, not waterproofing. It means a synthetic or hybrid glove that does not stiffen after a sweaty round or a damp morning, which is why ranges and corporate fields like it. It does not mean the glove will hold a club in steady rain. Once it is properly soaked, it slips the way any dry-weather glove does.
A rain glove is the opposite design. Its fabric is meant to take on water and grip harder as it does, which is why it can feel ordinary on a dry day. Buyers who expect one glove to do both jobs end up disappointed with whichever one they picked.
Pairs or singles: the counting trap
A playing glove, all-weather included, goes on the lead hand only: the left hand for a right-handed golfer, the right for a left-hander. You order singles and split them by hand.
Rain gloves go on both hands, because in weather bad enough to need them both hands are holding on. That doubles the glove count per player, so a field of 40 needs 80 rain gloves. Customized Golf Gloves only quotes rain gloves as pairs, boxes them as pairs, and brands both tabs.
Branding each one
Either way the logo goes on the closure tab, the one flat, rigid part of a glove, and it is proofed at actual size in your free mockup before anything prints. Rain pairs carry the mark on both tabs, so the logo shows on both hands when the umbrellas come out. All-weather singles carry it on the lead-hand tab, which faces up at address on every shot.
Which events suit which glove
All-weather gloves suit corporate golf days, charity scrambles, driving ranges and academies: any order where the whole field needs a glove that fits and keeps working, and where you will need a full spread of sizes. They are also the sensible default when you do not know the forecast.
A rain pair is the gift people remember: it sits folded in a bag pocket for months and gets pulled out on the worst day of the year. It suits clubs in wet climates, autumn society days, captains’ gifts and resort shops. For a fixed event date in a rainy season, put a rain pair in each player’s gift set next to their playing glove.
The verdict
Pick all-weather if you want one glove per player that gets used all season.
Pick rain gloves if the brief is to keep players gripping in wet weather, and budget for pairs.
